429 What now - with Tommy Sheppard

So what happens now? After the EU referendum the political landscape has been turned on it's head for us here in Scotland. Over the last week the likelihood of #indyref2 has increased greatly if we are to remain within the EU at all. This is not a time to be a *45 any more, this is the opportunity to make the case for independence and reach those that have either changed their mind to Yes or have doubts and questions we can answer better than in 2014. Yes Edinburgh Southern are having a get together on the 29th of July at the Yes Cafe in Liberton. We will have a social evening to catch up, chat, digest goings on, share opinions and ideas on what to do next.

In April 2016, a witness bearing delegation from Scotland visited the infamous 'jungle' camp in Calais. The delegation formed part of a sustained series of high profile visits which has enabled the situation in Calais to become a matter of public concern after years of obscurity. Those who formed part of the recent delegation included SNP MPs from the Justice and Home Affairs Select Committee, academics, clinicians, campaigners and those who have long experience in working with refugees in Scotland. Please join members of the delegation share some what they witnessed during their four days at the camps and also reflect on the potential impacts there of the recent EU referendum result . "At times of chronic humanitarian crisis, an active approach is that of bearing witness. Bearing witness is uncomfortable and provoking. There is a need for us not to flinch from the acute discomfort, even anger and helplessness, of being witnesses to what, wittingly or unwittingly, our policies and voting habits, foreign and domestic, have done" (Alison Phipps).

Come to this public meeting on building anti-racism rooted in anti-austerity politics. Immigration is being blamed for the decline in living standards and for streched services and unemployment. We say that the blame should lie at the door of the Tory government. We say we need to fight together for homes, jobs and against racist scapegoating. We say that we need unity from below to challenge both racism and austerity. There will be speeches, followed by discussion, from: Smina Akhtar Jonathon Shafi Aamer Anwar Anum Qaiser Pinar Aksu The meeting will be chaired by Nighet Nasim Riaz LANGSIDE HALLS, SHAWLANDS, GLASGOW.

#HKS17 Houses are not just walls with price tags. Houses are homes, which are the centre of communities, and it is communities which form places. The Housekeeping Scotland Convention is the start of a long term Common Weal project aiming to build a genuinely transformative agenda for housing in Scotland that re-establishes homes as the beating heart of communities and places, not as financial assets for speculative gains. This project therefore seeks to address the two facets of the housing crisis, equally pervasive: an economic one, with sky-high rents and ever-rising inequality between those with property and those without, and an alienation one, with new housing built without community in mind and the forces of gentrification and under-investment displacing and undermining communities within our built environment. This twin crisis fused together in the tragedy of Grenfell tower, which if it does not act as a spur to fundamentally change our approach to homes, communities and places nothing will. The aim is to have good housing with the infrastructure and public amenities that make good communities – then we can give people great homes and great communities in which to make a home. As you may well know the new bridge over The Forth is being opened to pedestrians for two days, Saturday 2nd September and Sunday 3rd September. Many of the people who have paid for this new bridge have not been allocated a place, so the plan is. We gather at the south side of the old Forth bridge, at the retail park at 1pm, to head off on the pedestrian footpath on a march over the old road bridge at 2pm. Bring your Saltires.

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

ALSO here for protesters live stream within the danger zone http://livestre.am/5dlJI Highly contentious issue with many locals against the blowing up of these 6 flats at once and want them brought down floor by floor. The flats could still contain asbestos; they are very close to residential areas including a nursery and there is worry about water and gas pipes being burst. BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.
